6. Inclusive, Respectful Practice

We are committed to providing ethical, inclusive, and evidence-based psychological services that respect and affirm the diverse identities, experiences, and needs of all clients. This includes:

  • LGBTQIA+ individuals
  • Neurodivergent individuals: Our practice is neuro-affirming. We tailor our approaches to meet each person’s preferred ways of communicating, processing information, and engaging with the world.
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) individuals: We acknowledge and respect the influence of cultural identity, migration experiences, language, and intergenerational factors. We strive to provide culturally responsive care and, where appropriate, work collaboratively with interpreters and bicultural support workers.

We understand that every client’s lived experience—including experiences of trauma, marginalisation, or systemic disadvantage—can influence how they access and engage with psychological services. Our trauma-informed approach prioritises:

  • Emotional and physical safety
  • Trust and transparency
  • Choice and collaboration
  • Empowerment and autonomy
  • Cultural and historical awareness

Working with Young People:
We are committed to supporting the rights and autonomy of children and adolescents within a developmentally appropriate and legally compliant framework. Young people are actively involved in decisions about their care, including choosing who is involved in their support network, where this is consistent with legal and ethical obligations. We recognise that supporting agency and voice is critical for therapeutic effectiveness, particularly in the context of trauma or systemic harm.

All care is delivered in accordance with the APS Code of Ethics and AHPRA for best-practice principles for working with diverse and vulnerable populations. We regularly engage in professional development and reflective practice to ensure our work remains inclusive, affirming, and responsive to evolving community needs.
